UPSC Geologist and Geo-Scientist Exam Eligibility Details : Here are the full eligibility details for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2025:

Nationality

A candidate must be either:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: 32 years as of January 1, 2025 (i.e., born between January 2, 1993, and January 1, 2004)
  • Age Relaxation:
    • Up to 5 years for SC/ST candidates
    • Up to 3 years for OBC candidates
    • Up to 10 years for candidates with disabilities

Educational Qualification

  • Geologist Group ‘A’:
    • Master’s degree in Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology, Geo-Exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Science and Resource Management, Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies, Petroleum Geosciences, Geochemistry, or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Geophysicist Group ‘A’:
    • M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Marine Geophysics, or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Chemist Group ‘A’:
    • M.Sc. in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’:
    • Master’s degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Marine Geology, or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical) Group ‘A’:
    • Master’s degree in Chemistry from a recognized university.
  • Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) Group ‘A’:
    • Master’s degree in Geophysics from a recognized university.
  • Assistant Hydrogeologist, Group ‘B’:
    • Master’s degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Marine Geology, or Hydrogeology from a recognized university.
  • Assistant Chemist, Group ‘B’:
    • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Assistant Geophysicist, Group ‘B’:
    • M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, or Geophysics from a recognized university.

Other Requirements

  • Candidates must meet the physical and medical standards as prescribed by the UPSC.
